The Merit Company (MCo) is an advisory firm for companies at critical inflection points. We work with executive teams, boards and investors to bring stronger operating and organizational discipline to the business during moments where what got the company 'here' won't get it 'there.'
That can look like conditions where there is accelerating growth, a new capital structure or a leadership transition. Picture MCo sitting right at the center of four intersecting areas of the business that often fall out of sync as a business matures: Operational Performance, Executive Activation, Culture, and Leadership in the Age of AI. Our work helps clients align their business strategy, operating rigor, talent, and leadership to deliver on the company's vision and investor expectations.
Alongside our core work, our CEO, Robin, partners with social entrepreneurs and innovators tackling complex global challenges. It is intentional, generative (not to mention humbling and soul-filling) work that sharpens how we think about leadership and business performance across every client.
MCo works alongside companies navigating accelerating growth, capital structure changes, or leadership transitions. We partner with you to build the operating and organizational discipline required to perform at the next level.
MCo works with investors in three distinct ways. We operate independently during pre-close diligence to assess leadership risk, work alongside portfolio companies post-close through a warm introduction from the firm, and run an Executive Accelerator designed to develop and retain exceptional women leaders across the portfolio.
The Merit Company works as an embedded operating partner. This means we'll build a team around your business, scoped to the specific inflection point you're navigating. Every engagement is a la carte across four areas: Operational Performance, Executive Activation, Culture, and Leadership in the Age of AI.
A very select number of CEO and Executive Coaching engagements are also available each year.
We conduct a structured diagnostic of how your C-suite functions. We look across roles clarity, decision rights, accountability structures, and operating cadence to then map it against what the next stage of growth or capital structure requires.
It would be great if our operating models execute themselves, but alas. We audit how your executive team is functioning as a unit, identify where alignment breaks down and performance is leaving value on the table, and work directly with CEOs and leadership teams to activate the execution the business now demands.
Culture runs every decision, behavior, and outcome in the business, but many companies just haven't made it explicit yet. Or have, but it's not working anymore and needs a tune up. We lead values discovery, deliver a cultural audit, build the organizational identity framework, and design the change management architecture to embed it.
The hardest leadership challenge right now is managing the humans living alongside digital workers. This facilitated program gives executive teams the leadership practices, communication frameworks, and management skills to lead people well in an environment shaped by agentic AI.
The Merit Company works with investors in three distinct ways. In pre-close diligence, the client is the firm. MCo operates independently to assess leadership risk in a prospective transaction. In portfolio company work, the client is the company itself, brought in through a warm introduction from the investor.
Most investors underwrite financial risk with extraordinary rigor. Leadership risk gets a fraction of that attention and it's frequently where transactions succeed or fail after close. We conduct confidential C-suite diagnostics during active due diligence to assess the health, capability, and alignment of the target company's leadership team: how they function, where the real gaps are, and what would need to be true on the people side for the deal to work.
Once you've backed a company, MCo can work directly alongside the leadership team. We suggest a warm introduction from the investor, but being engaged by the company itself as their buy-in is critical. Consider the introduction when a CEO is navigating a consequential transition, the executive team has outgrown its operating model, the investor wants a clear operating-level read on the leadership team, or the company is managing a significant transformation it doesn't yet have the infrastructure to handle it.
The Merit Company partners with investment firms to attract, develop, and retain exceptional women leaders across the portfolio and within the firm itself. The goal is to strengthen the leadership bench, increase executive readiness, improve retention of top talent, and build the conditions required for leaders to scale alongside the business.
This accelerator is designed for VP, SVP, and emerging C-suite leaders navigating increased scale, complexity, investor visibility, and organizational influence. The program combines facilitated sessions, executive coaching, peer forums, and practical operating tools leaders can immediately apply inside the business.
Built on principles developed at Bridgewater Associates and refined through operator experience, we apply a disciplined, repeatable process across every client engagement.
Define what success looks like. We start by getting explicit on outcomes tied to strategy, performance, and investor expectations.
Understand the root cases of what is getting in the way. We surface the gap between current state and required state and the underlying issues across leadership, operations, and culture.
Build the structures, rhythms, and frameworks required to solve for root causes. This includes how decisions are made, how teams operate, and how performance is driven.
Execute by embedding with the leadership team to translate our design into clear priorities, accelerated decisions and established accountability.
Ensure the system is stable and continues to improve by tracking progress against the original goals and adjusting in real time. Think of it like a continuous loop.
Robin is an operator through and through and has held operating seats across founder-led startups, PE-backed scale-ups, and publicly traded enterprises. At Bridgewater Associates, Box (NYSE: BOX), and Gainsight, she navigated VC-to-PE transitions from inside the business, managed founder relationships as a direct report, rebuilt leadership teams, and operated under the pressure of board-level accountability and accelerated growth.
Robin spent seven years at Gainsight, first leading Strategy & Operations before becoming Chief People & Operations Officer. In that role, she oversaw a global people and operations strategy spanning 16 countries, three continents, and more than 1,400 employees. During her tenure, Gainsight was recognized as Glassdoor's #1 Best Place to Work in 2023, named to Fortune's Best Workplaces in Technology, and recognized as a five-time Forbes Cloud 100 company. She also founded Pulse Impact, the customer success industry's first social responsibility initiative, which raised more than $2 million for global giving efforts.
In recognition of her leadership and industry impact, Robin was named among The Software Report's Top Women Leaders in Software in 2024.
Her background spans strategy, operational performance, communications, and organizational leadership, reflecting the integrated nature of the work MCo delivers. The challenges companies face at moments of scale and transition rarely stay confined to one function. Robin founded The Merit Company to help leadership teams and investors strengthen the systems that determine whether companies successfully scale through critical inflection points.

MCo operates through a highly selective network model, bringing together experienced operators and subject matter experts to provide targeted perspective, operating rigor, and specialized expertise based on the needs of each engagement.
